Two-wheeler theft is a widespread and growing concern across India—with major cities like Bengaluru and Thane exhibiting low recovery percentages and a high frequency of incidents. National & City-Level Two-Wheeler Theft Insights
Maharashtra / Pune focus
Pune city vehicle thefts: Pune Police recorded 1,796 vehicle thefts in 2022; media tracking shows 1,910 two-wheelers stolen in 2022, up from 1,504 (2021) and 1,156 (2020). The Times of IndiaHindustan TimesPune Mirror

Thane (2023)
Around 80% of all vehicle thefts in Thane were two-wheelers.
Out of 1,713 stolen vehicles, only 691 (~40%) were recovered.
Bengaluru
Over 2.5 years, 13,000+ two-wheelers were stolen—that’s 14–16 bikes stolen daily.
Only ~32% recovery rate: 4,420 recovered out of 13,000+ stolen.
Karnataka State
Bengaluru alone accounted for 44% of vehicle thefts in the state in Q1 2025.
From 2,473 thefts statewide, 1,106 occurred in Bengaluru.
Of these, 1,327 were two-wheelers.
Vehicle Theft Surge Nationwide (2023)
